This time I will explain material about argumentative texts and discuss argumentative texts in more depth. Please scroll down to read my material !!

Sample of Argumentative Text: 

THEORY: 

1. Language Funcation : 

Argumentative texts are written to reveal the author's views or stance on a particular case, phenomenon or theory. Another goal of argumentative text is to influence behavior with the author's views or opinions explained in a logical and data-based way. 

2. Text Structure : 

• Title, an overview of the entire content of the reading text, written clearly, briefly and interestingly. 

• Thesis, the author's statement or opinion about the topic to be discussed. 

• Argumet, explanation or evidence that supports the author's thesis. 

• Recommendations are parts that contain the author's opinions which are reaffirmed. 

3. Language Components/features :

• It contains the author's thoughts, ideas, views, and opinions. 

• It is accompanied by logical reasons, facts or events that occurred, as well as information from several sources such as data, graphics, pictures, and other things that can be accepted by reason. 

• It is presented using analysis and analogy. 

• It is usually written as a non-fiction text and ends with a conclusion. 

EXAMPLE:

# Should College Education be Free?

College education should be free for all students. Education is a basic right and the key to success and prosperity and making it accessible to be a better society.

Countries that provide free education in college have higher rates of college graduates and more educated workforce. Providing free college education for students will reduce the burden of student debt.

Opponents of free education in college argue that it would be too expensive for the government to provide. The benefits of a more educated population will outweigh the costs in the long run.

# Smoking Prohibition by MUI

Recently the MUI (Indonesian Ulema Council) issued a fatwa that smoking is forbidden and should be avoided. Smoking causes a variety of reactions in the community. The society is divided into two groups in considering that fatwa.

But, many people agree with MUI and the others do not agree with MUI. The party who agrees with the fatwa assumes that smoking is very dangerous for humans because it can cause various diseases like impotence, internal organs damage, death, and many more.
